Off to See the Wizard, The Wonderful Wizard of…

Joe? Yes, Joe. Trader Joe’s!

Who needs Oz when you have two Trader Joe’s in two different neighboring towns? That’s right, I’m a little spoiled up here and I’m really enjoying being back home if only for the insane convenience of having my pick of TJ’s right around town. Today, I went to Trader Joe’s to peruse the merchandise, as many of my close friends and family swear by the TJ skincare regimen. I have always wanted to try their products, but have never had the chance to buy, since I’m always stocked up! Well, as fate would have it, I’ve just run out of my Oil of Olay Sensitive Skin SPF 15 Daily Moisturizer (what a mouthful) and I’m in the market for something new.

Many people have often commented on my buying health and beauty products at TJ’s, but the only thing I have to say to that is that these products are severely underrated. My gateway drug into the TJ world of beauty began with my 16 oz. jar of Trader Joe’s Extra Virgin Organic Coconut Oil (pictured below). Now I don’t know if all of you have ever experienced the magic of coconut oil, but my family is originally from the Philippines and this stuff is no commodity there; it’s the way we live our lives. Coconut oil can serve as a moisturizing eye make-up remover, a deep conditioner, a hair mask, a body moisturizer and a lovely addition to any steaming foot soak, bath or DIY spa night. Add to that its uses in the kitchen and you’ve got yourself the greatest all-purpose item in the world. A steal at $6.99 per jar, you couldn’t find a better deal anywhere else.

Now, the other product that I enjoyed was the Trader Joe’s Tea Tree Tingle Shampoo & Conditioner. For all you lovers of mint and rosemary, this delightful shampoo and conditioner duo is true to its name, feels refreshing and cool in the shower and leaves your scalp feeling like it just went through an amazing skin treatment. It’s like a treat to yourself, basically every day. Each bottle is sold at $4.00, but with some drug shampoos like Nexxus and John Frieda being sold for prices well into the double digits, I think that this splurge is definitely worth a shot, even just to try!

Now, for my newest adventure: TJ’s skincare. There are two ways to go when you’re exploring the TJ’s skincare regimen, the first is with its original Trader Joe’s Enrich Moisturizing Face Lotion, SPF 15, which is one of their greatest selling products. Many reviewers have compared it to their use of Oil of Olay Face Lotion and have come to the conclusion that at $3.95 a bottle (as compared to Oil of Olay’s $7.99 a bottle), the Trader Joe’s version is much more bang for your buck!

On the other side of the spectrum, we have the Trader Joe’s Nourish line that comes with a full complement of facial cleanser, face lotion, body lotion and other skin treats! At $5.00/bottle, this doesn’t seem much too different from their enrich lotion and I was much more interested in trying something closer to my Oil of Olay formula, but that being said, I have never heard of a friend who didn’t like the cleanser and lotion paired together! If you’re up for a little adventure, this is where you should start.

Those are my reviews for now, but I’ll come back with my comparison of the Oil of Olay vs. Trader Joe’s Enrich super, super soon! In conclusion: I. Love. Trader Joe’s.

Happy scouting!

Love, PB
